As an active member in Home Health Care, it’s easy to see the difference between quality services and poor services. I can tell you this is magnified ten times for the client on the receiving end of services. I think of it as a type of peep hole in the clients front door. The Home Care agency looks in and sees a small picture while the client looks out and sees the bigger picture.
Better Service Equals Better Health
I feel the operations of a Home Care Agency is simple. Better management equals better daily operations. Better operations equals better flow and easier management. Easier Management equals more time to spend on other activities. More free time equals to a lot more follow up with clients, field staff and internal staff.
If all Home Care Agencies could find these “diamonds in the ruff” we would see an outstanding improvement in the quality of life for seniors and their families. A high level of service is something that we all deserve and expect, whether it’s the coffee you order in the morning or the Home Care Agency you invite through your door.
This process is usually determined by the screening process of all potential employees. If done correctly by people who want to improve the quality of life for those involved. Your team will be picking the best caregivers to work out in the field.
Now how does all this equal better health for a client? Well that part is also simple, but yet requires a finesse of a trained group of individuals working as a team. I have seen the results of a trained hand both inside an office and out in the field. I have also seen the opposite and how the end result can have a negative effect on a Home Care Agency that cares.
I say this because Home Care is brought to the client by an agencies field staff. This is the Certified Nurses Aide or Home Health Aide that comes to the patients house to render these services. I measure the success of a home care agency by how happy their clients are. Clients and their families measure a good home care agency by a multitude of different criteria. What kind of services are offered, what type of caregivers the agency has, prices of services and the confidence of staff members who control the daily functions of the home care agency, just to name a few of many.
I speak first hand when I say I have seen the difference and tell all new recruits “staff all of your cases like you were trying to find help for one of your loved ones”. I have seen clients go from total personal care needed to no personal care needed. Caregivers that like to cook well rounded meals, be a friend and a companion and provide the best possible care to their patients.
