In some of the country’s hottest bars, ice is becoming the next biggest thing. Mixologists in New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago are now starting to realize how ice can make or break a perfect cocktail. Because ice cools down a drink during the mixing process, it lowers the temperature of the drink overall, and this inhibits the taste receptors on the tongue. This makes a drink more palatable and decreases that bite and alcohol taste that hard liquor tends to have. As such, many bartenders are making ice one of the focal points of their concoctions by using imported water to make their cubes or even cracking their own ice with a hammer and ice pick.
Design:
The unit itself weighed roughly 46 pounds, and we could tell this unit was built to last. The all-white finish was sleek and modern looking, and when placed on our kitchen counter, it blended in with our other appliances. The control panel with soft touch controls was extremely easy to use, and the unit allowed us to select the size of ice we wanted – small, medium, or large. Furthermore, for convenience, this unit did not require continuous drainage, so we simply added Evian into the tank and enjoyed great tasting ice cubes for our summer cocktails in no time.
On scorching summer days, your stove or oven may seem like an eyesore, and sometimes, the only cooking you can handle is simply stirring sugar into a pitcher of lemonade or a glass of iced tea. However, what’s integral to a refreshing summer drink is ice.
Nonetheless, most restaurants are still making ice as they have been for years, and that is through the use of commercial ice makers. Commercial ice makers produce and store massive amounts of ice quickly and efficiently, and best of all, the cubes that come from these appliances are clear and evenly shaped. If you happen to look inside a restaurant ice maker, you’ll notice that it produces ice in layers. Water runs over plates where is formed, and the ice grows in layers.
Thankfully, if you want to enjoy restaurant-quality ice when you want it instead of having to rely on your refrigerator’s ice maker, this is definitely possible with a portable ice maker. Not only do these appliances produce ice in minutes, because they often utilize bottled or purified water, you get clear, great tasting ice cubes every time.
Therefore, with summer already here, our product team has been hard at work testing various models of portable ice makers on the market. We’ve noticed that the most popular ice maker brands are Franklin Chef and Amcor, but NewAir, a company predominantly known for its heating and cooling products, has also come out with an extremely popular and value-priced line of portable ice makers. Thus, we were fortunate enough to test out the AI-200W at one of our company parties, and here were our findings:
Get Restaurant-Quality Ice at Home With the NewAir AI-200W Portable Icemaker
Overall, we were quite impressed with the NewAir AI-200W ice maker. It worked great, was affordable, and at the end of our party, everyone from our office wanted one of their own.
Furthermore, the Japanese have even taken ice making to the extreme. Taisin, a Japanese appliance company, has now introduced a mold that seamlessly creates of perfect sphere of ice without any chipping or shaving. A chunk of ice is placed in a metal press and as the ice melts, the device forms it in a ball, and it is then released. Many restaurants and bars are clamoring for this spherical ice making machine because the reduced surface size of the cube means the ice melts at a lower pace and keeps the drink from becoming too diluted too quickly.
“You have never skied before?” Anja, the woman behind the hotel desk, looked puzzled. “Ah, you mean you’ve never skied in Austria?” “No,” I explained, “I have never worn skis, or used a ski lift, or even understood those strange ski maps.” I was at Lethal Weapon 5 Gets Closer. Think Of A [...]

Putting the Brakes on Infant Walkers
A mother at one of the message boards I frequent posted a question recently about using infant walkers. Her pediatrician had recommended she not use a walker with her five-month-old and she was wondering the reasoning behind it, since her son seemed to love it so much. Parenting a small baby is filled with dangers [...]
