The unit itself weighed roughly 46 pounds, and we could tell this unit was built to last. If all Home Care Agencies could find these “diamonds in the ruff” we would see an outstanding improvement in the quality of life for seniors and their families. A high level of service is something that we all deserve and expect, whether it’s the coffee you order in the morning or the Home Care Agency you invite through your door.

Now how does all this equal better health for a client? Well that part is also simple, but yet requires a finesse of a trained group of individuals working as a team. I have seen the results of a trained hand both inside an office and out in the field. I have also seen the opposite and how the end result can have a negative effect on a Home Care Agency that cares.

I say this because Home Care is brought to the client by an agencies field staff. This is the Certified Nurses Aide or Home Health Aide that comes to the patients house to render these services. I measure the success of a home care agency by how happy their clients are. Clients and their families measure a good home care agency by a multitude of different criteria. What kind of services are offered, what type of caregivers the agency has, prices of services and the confidence of staff members who control the daily functions of the home care agency, just to name a few of many.

I speak first hand when I say I have seen the difference and tell all new recruits “staff all of your cases like you were trying to find help for one of your loved ones”. I have seen clients go from total personal care needed to no personal care needed. Caregivers that like to cook well rounded meals, be a friend and a companion and provide the best possible care to their patients.

If microbes are present, you will need a water purification process that disinfects. Microbes include E. coli, cryptosporidium and giardia. Ingesting them tends to cause mild illness; but, in the very young or those with compromised immune systems, infection can be fatal.

Then there is the toxic metal, lead. Lead is found in homes around the country, and around the world because lead-lined pipes and lead-based solder were the materials of choice for water pipes for many years. To combat lead contamination, water purifiers should include an ion exchange step that converts lead ions to harmless potassium. This step will also remove copper, which can spoil taste and emit odor.

There are a number of other contaminants that may be present regardless of your source. These substances are known to contaminate groundwater, and they manage to get to kitchen faucets regardless of the water purification steps used by public treatment facilities. These contaminants include traces of pesticides, herbicides and VOCs (volatile organic chemicals) VOCs are industrial chemicals that have made their way into the waters of the world.
